I have just finished doing ALL the form for this wonderful card of racing at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
And as I did, I scratched my head trying to remember if one single owner had ever won multiple races at a Saturday city meeting.
Wait up, of course that has occurred – the Inghams did it many times….what I’m getting at is massive numbers: has any one single owner won 5 or 6 or…7 races on the same program?
Because, and I know this is hard to imagine, but gee I think Sheikh Mohammad can win 7 races at Randwick and one at Moonee Valley.
But let’s look at Randwick.
The supreme ruler of Dubai has NO runners in the first two races, but he comes with a powerful finish in all the other races. Here is a look at all his chances on the card.
Race 3
ATHIRI is 2nd up and was an outstanding 2YO. Now a 3YO she is poised to come with a rush and win this. If she can’t, the Sheik has two other worthy players in last start winner AVON RIVER and the well-drawn emerging talent DEFERENCE.
Race 4
James Cummings for Sheikh Mohammad saddles just one runner, the inform WAKA won won 2 on the bounce before a game 4th this level last start. And is drawn perfectly here.
Race 5
James’ dad Anthony saddles the fav here but if there is a chink in Libertini’s armour, the Sheikh’s TENLEY who is astonishing on her day and FLIT who was the model of talent when last in work, will finish like rockets late in the peace.
Race 6
DEPRIVE is very smart and has underlined that by winning past 4 races. Is in this up to his eyeballs, especially after flashing down the outside to win at stakes level last start. But Sheikh Mohammad also has the European Gr 1 performer CASCADIAN here too. On debut in Aussie but trial here was brilliant and looks outstanding.
Race 7
We all accept that AVILIUS is the best stayer in Australia but he has been working so well that he could very easily win a Gr 1 sprint first up and therefore take over the Winx mantle as best overall racehorse. In the race also to help Godolphin is Gr 1 winner BEST OF DAYS who is flying too.
Race 8
How good is the current Champion 2YO of Australia in KIAMICHI? The Gr 1 Golden Slipper resumes here and races for the first time as a 3YO and looks deliciously well placed following a brilliant barrier trial. SOOTHING, who also trialled impressively recently is the support act and will run on.
Race 9
ROHERYN rounds out the day. He is probably the most boomed and hyped runner on the card and is expected to win for fun.
I’ll be backing them all.
Landing 7 is a stretch and I earnestly, realistically, think he’ll get 4 but Team Godolphin under James Cummings is going that well – 7 could well be their lucky number!
