Comment: Lloyd Williams runner who spanked them two back before being well backed to win the Turnbull last Sunday and he wasn’t far off Preferment. Drops big time in grade this Saturday, and a win will see him qualify for the Caulfield Cup and go up the order of entry for the Melbourne Cup. He should prove hard to beat this weekend.

Comment: As I said in my meeting preview, this will be carnival and perhaps career defining for Kermadec and what he does in this race. He has been high class up to the mile, but he now has to prove himself at 2000m against the best of the best. He is favoured to win this weekend, and if he does, he should come in to around the $3-$3.50 mark for the Cox Plate, so if you like him to win at Moonee Valley, back him now, because this might be the best price you get if he is to win this weekend.

Comment: Star He is on the quick back up after racing in the Turnbull last Sunday where he had no luck at all in the straight behind Preferment. He is proven at this level at this distance, as well as proving himself well and truly in the Cox Plate. Given the quality and quantity of horses heading to Moonee Valley, he probably needs to win this race to secure himself a spot in the field.

Comment: Darren Weir trained runner who worked home well last Friday night in the JRA Cup (2040m) behind Escado in a leader dominated race. Up in trip suits him this weekend, and he will rise significantly in the order of entry if he was to win this race on Saturday.

Comment: Not many Melbourne Cup aspirants are running on Saturday, so I thought I’d go with one from left field, and landed with Bohemain Lily. She stuck to the task quite gamely last start over 2400m in the Colin Stephen when running second. Needs to win this race to have any real chance of qualifying, but she should get every chance.
