Casterton
$100 Win Hedley’s Lady R1 @ $3 (Sportsbet)
Casterton Overview:
The Patrick Payne/Billy Egan combo has been lethal in recent weeks and I think it can continue here in the shape of Hedley’s Lady, who is on debut. This daughter of Husson has had two jumpouts in readiness for her debut, the first of which came on the Ballarat Synthetic when back and closing off strongly under a hold. Then had a jumpout last week at Bendigo and was given a shaken up by Egan when off the speed and I just loved her change up speed. Think she’s pretty good and $3 is more than acceptable in what looks a thin race.
Bathurst
$30 Win/$70 Place Mucker R5 @ $17/$4.8 (Sportsbet)
$40 Win/$60 Place Ribands R6 @ $26/$7 (Sportsbet)
Bathurst Overview:
Firstly, I think both will run well, but I can’t believe the prices they are at. Starting with Mucker. I reckon Aaron Clarke has this bloke going quite well. Attacked the line with real purpose first up behind Smart Remark before racing well again, but a touch flat compared to the resumption. Third up, should be just about at peak fitness and if he can hold the back of likely leader Entitlement, I think you’ll get an outstanding run for your money at the odds. There is a pause in diving into Ribands. At the time of writing, the track is a Soft 5 so I’d say wait until race morning and see what the track rating comes up as. If it remains Soft 5 or gets to a Good 4, I’ll be betting up at the odds. Most unlucky first up at Wagga before going to Hawkesbury where he was a total forgive behind Charlie Chap due to the wet track. If the rain stays away and the track can remain a Soft5/Good4, he is the horse at really silly odds IMO.
