Geelong
$100 Win Aussie Nugget R2 @ $4 (TAB)
Geelong Overview: Made him the best of the day and will be surprised if he isn’t favourite come jump time. Stable said pre race at Bendigo that the horse would improve with the run under the belt, his first run in Australia, so with that in mind, I thought his effort to close off behind a talented one in Splendid was more than commendable. He’ll eat up the extra trip, Mick Dee remains on and the fav Argente Fiscale I remember backing last prep at Stawell where he had every chance on speed yet still couldn’t win. Can deal me out of him and much prefer $4 for this bloke, with a stack of upside to come.
Canberra
$100 Win Wordless R4 @ $4.2 (TAB)
Canberra Overview: I suspect the money will come for Wordless and might well start favourite. He’s on debut for Nick Olive off the back of a trial win at the track a couple of weeks ago where near the speed nearer the inside and he went on to win the trial under no pressure at all from Billy Owen. Speaking to Billy today, he said they (he and the stable) were surprised by the trial because they weren’t expecting that off his trackwork but blinkers look to have switched him on and did work well on Tuesday so that’s a good enough push for me. The fav Discombe debuted at Kembla and looked to have every chance on speed. $2.80/thereabouts is short enough and the Olive stable can set one up to win first up on the home track so I’ll take the $4.20 and trust what I saw in the trial.
Cranbourne
$100 Win Archery Butts R1 @ $2.3 (Bet365)
Cranbourne Overview: Note that 365 was the only bookie with odds up at the time of writing. If you want to look at trial porn, watch the jumpout of Archery Butts at Flemington. He went like an absolute jet in winning, leading throughout, running good time, looking to travel sweetly and did it under no real pressure. Is accepted for Flemington on Saturday but he does look a near good thing here, especially with Willow booked to take the ride.
Wangaratta
$40 Win/$60 Place Macstryker R7 @ $21/$5.5 (Sportsbet)
Wangaratta Overview: Think there is really good bet at decent odds here in the shape of Macstryker, resuming for the Allan Fitzgerald stable. Has shown good talent since day one but at times has been wayward. Has been given a good break in readiness for his return to racing and for mine, he’ll be forward enough given he was pushed out and responded well to win a recent jumpout at this track. Hoping he can sit off a likely fast speed and be strong late.
