The focus on racing this Saturday was at Randwick for day two of the Grand Finals of Australian racing, the Championships. Who got the pass marks? Find out down below:

Randwick:
Race Six Number 9 Alaskan Rose (11th):
She isn’t one of my horses, but her run was a real sleeper. Lost all momentum with the Single Gaze fall and then really had no luck at all in the straight. I’d love her to go to either Adelaide or Brisbane for another Oaks because I think she will go close to winning either.
Race Eight Number 3 Azkadellia (1st):
Winx might be the favourite early on for the Cox Plate, but I think this mare could well challenge her. Had to come home near the inferior ground yet just showed an electric turn of foot when asked and won with authority. Got her deserved Group l and can go right on with it in the Spring.
Race Nine Number 12 Lucia Valentina (1st):
Obvious I know, but really, the margin flattered the opposition. She really could have won by 5+ had she got a clear run at the top of the straight but 2.3L was still dominant enough. Does she go overseas again, or does she pick up another Group l in Brisbane? Either way, she is a credit to the gun horseman Kris Lees is.
Sandown:
Race Three Number 3 Minnie Downs (9th):
Keep an eye on this mare. Didn’t do much in an unsuitable race, but she caught my eye after the line. She powered through it and was in front 200m afterwards. A win isn’t far away.
Race Four Number 1 Rageese (1st):
First start for Darren Weir and once again, the mans magic touch worked wonders. Sat three and four wide no cover for the trip yet ambled to the front and kicked on strongly to beat home a good one in Demonstrate. He has promised a great deal and can go right on with it.
Race Six Number 4 Charlevoix (1st):
Find whatever price you can for this horse in regards to the SA Derby. He will just win it. Dominant win here and is open to further improvement.

Randwick:
Race Five Number 12 Petits Filous (Last):
She’s run some handy races against her own age and sex where the race has been set up for, but the better ones can show versatility and overcome difficulties. She was poor and any plans for her being a Group l horse need to be quashed.
Race Ten Number 1 Bounding (11th):
I got this mare wrong. I thought she’d win a major Group l sprint once she was transferred to Team Snowden, but despite an electric Caulfield win in the Spring, she has done bugger all. What could save her is a freshen up and a Brisbane assault perhaps? But even then, I couldn’t touch her.
Randwick Race Four Number 3 His Majesty (3rd)- Blake Shinn:
Clear ride of the day for mine, even though he got beat. Was forced his hand by the barrier and had to go back to last before Shinn saved every inch he could and despite the slow tempo he worked home strongly for third. Give him a genuine speed in front and he wins, but the ride was just outstanding in defeat.
