There was some great racing right across Australia on Saturday, with the feature race being the Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) at Flemington. Who caught our attention on the track? Find out down below:
FOLLOW:
Randwick-
(Forgive) Race Seven Number 4 Darciwood (6th):
Forgive and forget he went around here. This was his first run in three weeks and I think he is better at 1200m. He was simply run off his legs here, and he is a horse who only has a short and sharp turn of foot, so though he was favourite and flopped, don’t sack. There were excuses.
FORGET:
Flemington:
Race Five Number 11 Heavy (7th):
Too frustrating to follow. He is a tease and he proved that again here after being well backed late in the piece.
Race Six Number 13 Liberty Island (13th):
Given every chance from Ollie, but as soon as the gap appeared, he went with them for a couple of strides, then went backwards soon after. Definitely looking for the spelling paddock.
RIDE OF THE DAY:
Randwick Race Six Number 4 Burbero (1st)- Rory Hutchings:
Absolute peach here on this horse. He sat last in the run and Hutchings could have easily peeled wide, but he elected to stay inside and look to duck and weave between runners, and that decision proved to be a beauty. No doubt that if he had the same opportunities as the likes of McDonald, Bowman and Shinn, he’d be holding his own very comfortably.
LOOK AWAY NOW…:
Jamie Mott at Morphettville:
Apart from his ride on Cashed, it was a very ordinary day at the office for the best heavyweight rider in Victoria. Most notably on even money pop Courtside, who was stuck four and five wide no cover for the entire trip. Wasn’t pretty to watch, but he is a much better rider than what he showed here.
