There was some very good racing right across Australia this Saturday as well as Scone on Friday. Who got the pass marks? Find out down below:

FOLLOW:

Scone (Friday):

Race Seven Number 10 Less Is More (11th):

Pajaro was unlucky and had every right to win…but gee Less Is More…I think with a clear run, he goes awfully close to winning IMO. Hopefully you get generous odds next time out.

Scone (Saturday):

Race Two Number 14 Barood (6th):

Was heavily backed here and really got no luck at all in the straight when appearing to be bolting in the run. Trials were sharp and he looks to have come back in super order. Follow with confidence.

Race Six Number 10 Piamimi (6th):

The stablemate was an impressive winner and is the obvious, but I thought Piamimi was excellent from the back for a horse that is better over further. Down in grade and she can definitely win.

Race Seven Number 1 She’s Clean (12th):

Watch the replay.

Race Eight Number 8 Kaepernick (1st):

Looked in a bit of trouble halfway home, but Robert Thompson got him away from the rail and into the clear, and he put the race to bed in a few strides. Needs to raise the bar to be a Stradbroke contender, but he has the scope to do it.

Caulfield

Race Four Number 7 Air Apparent (7th):

Gee this was hard to watch if you backed her. Absolutely no luck behind the tiring heavily backed fav and just forget she went around.

Race Seven:

Many unlucky runners here, and I am sure this will turn out to be a good form race through the likes of Ability and Bassett as well as a couple of others.

Race Nine Number 8 Lord Durante (4th):

Enormous in defeat given he went sub 60 for the first 1000m. He survived and fought on bravely, while the other on speed runner finished near last. He is bursting to win a race. Back him with confidence if he goes to the Valley in three weeks time.

Doomben:

Race Three Number 11 Outraged (2nd):

Run of the day IMO. Sat last in the run and flashed home for a narrow second to Beckham where they ran a tick over 34 for the final 600m, so he must have run 33 and change. For a stayer, it was a fantastic run and will win either the Ipswich Cup or Caloundra Cup.

Race Five Number 2 Souchez (3rd):

Really good first up run for a horse who just didn’t handle the track at all, but his last 150 was excellent for a horse heading towards the J J Atkins. Excellent first up effort.

Race Seven Number 1 Delectation (8th):

This is my pick for the Stradbroke. The way Waller spoke to Sky Central before the race, the horse sounded like it was going to run tailed off last…but gee he was unlucky here and would have clearly run sub 33 with a clear run. Wait til he gets to the 10000 and then the Stradbroke.

FORGET:

Scone (Saturday):

Race One Number 3 Duca Valentinois (4th):

12/10 from McDonald and it was no betting on the turn, but gee he was weak. I don’t think he is a genuine stayer. Pretty disappointing here.

Race Seven Number 6 Ammirata (7th):

Looked to not do too much work on speed, but she was the first beat soon after straightening. Can’t back her again anytime soon with confidence.

RIDE OF THE DAY:

Doomben Race Eight Number 6 Mackintosh (1st)- Blake Shinn:

This is why you put the best on. Stewards were told this horse was going forward and look for cover, but Shinn seized the initiative, took up the running and the race was over. Not sure he will win the Derby, but on this win, it was impressive, aided by the ride.

LOOK AWAY NOW…

Morphettville Race Six Number 6 Scratchy Lass (8th)- Jason Holder:

Identical to last week, though this time he got stuck five wide no cover on a mare that is at her best when she gets cover.
