He has had no public appearances, but after a solid private jump out, the Robbie Laing trained Alabama Charge has been best backed with Sportsbet.com.au to take out the two year old race at Moonee Valley this Saturday, the Silver Thomas Hanley Handicap (1200m).
To be steered by Craig Newitt, the colt is by Charge Forward and is closely related to a horse called Contentment, who is a rising up and comer in Hong Kong and ran well in the Hong Kong Derby earlier in the year. Alabama Charge opened $11 to win this race and has firmed at every call, now into $8.
Favourite for the race is the Team Hawkes trained Mawahibb, but he has been very easy, out to $3.20 from his opening quote of $2.80, while the other favoured runner, Demonstrate, opened $3.70, eased to $3.80 but is now back into his opening price.
