“Wow” doesn’t begin to cover the finish of the Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday, with Hauraki producing an unbelievable finish to win. Here are our ratings for the 2016 Epsom Handicap.

1. Palentino:

Finished: 13th

Summary: Sat wide no cover throughout and pulled hard. He ran last…as I said, the trial last week wasn’t pretty and he ran accordingly.

Rating: 1/10

Spring Target: Cox Plate/Emirates Stakes

2. Hauraki:

Finished: 1st

Summary: Eased back to last in the run, was nowhere to be seen but wow, what a finish to get the win in the most thrilling fashion.

Rating: 10/10

Spring Target: Cox Plate/Emirates Stakes

3. Le Romain:

Finished: 5th

Summary: Sat outside with no cover throughout and he did the donkey work. Only got beat the last 75m in a huge effort.

Rating: 8/10

Spring Target: Emirates Stakes

4. Happy Clapper:

Finished: 4th

Summary: Had the suck run near the fence and was off the bit before the turn. Once balanced he looked a threat but just lacked the turn of foot.

Rating: 7/10

Spring Target: Cox Plate/Emirates Stakes

5. Mighty Lucky:

Finished: 11th

Summary: Was wide throughout and with that hot speed, it was mission impossible. Forgive him.

Rating: 3/10

Spring Target: Emirates Stakes?

6. Dibayani:

Finished: 2nd

Summary: Had the charmed run behind the speed and was given every chance. Deserved the win but was butted right on the peg.

Rating: 8/10

Spring Target: Unknown

7. Sons Of John:

Finished: 12th

Summary: Had to chase the hot speed and that sealed his fate. Can understand why he dropped out.

Rating: 2/10

Spring Target: Emirates Stakes

8. Mackintosh:

Finished: 3rd

Summary: Had the charmed run near the speed and presented to win the race, but was just pipped in the last couple of strides.

Rating: 8/10

Spring Target: Emirates Stakes

9. McCreery:

Finished: 6th

Summary: Sat midfield between runners, came off the bit before the turn and looked to be going nowhere, but he picked up and wasn’t beaten far.

Rating: 7/10

Spring Target: Unknown

10. Heavens Above:

Finished: 7th

Summary: Had the back of McCreery and presented to be a threat, but she just lacked the killer blow when it mattered. Effort was still very good.

Rating: 6/10

Spring Target: Myer Classic

11. Vanbrugh:

Finished: 9th

Summary: Missed the kick, sat back near last the fence and was just too keen in the run. Forgive but he isn’t up to this level.

Rating: 4/10

Spring Target: Cox Plate/Emirates Stakes

12. Torgersen:

Finished: 8th

Summary: Sat back in the run and was another totally not suited by the fast speed, but his last 150m was pretty good. Hit the line okay.

Rating: 6/10

Spring Target: Emirates Stakes

13. Fabrizio:

Finished: 10th

Summary: Led at a solid tempo and gave a really good kick but just tired late. Brave ride and it almost paid off.

Rating: 7/10

Spring Target: Unknown
