As is the case every year, the Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) is a very tough race to sort out with confidence for punters and the 2019 edition looks exactly the same if the early Sportsbet.com.au movement on the race is anything to go by.
It is $6 the field, headed by Moss Trip, who won on this day last year when winning the Guineas. She is back from a freshen up, trialled well, drawn well and is popular at $6, in from $6.50. On that $6.50 line are a couple of runners, Savitiano and Con Te Partiro, the latter making her Australian debut and did open $4.40, so her price has been corrected.
Into The Abyss, who has been luckless this time in, is solid at $8, in half a point from her opening price. The one that has had good specking at odds is the Kris Lees trained Asharani, who opened $27 and that was taken immediately, with several decent each way bets seeing her price now at $16.
