Jameka shot herself straight to the top of the betting for the Emirates Melbourne Cup after a dominant win in the BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) on Saturday at the Heath. Here are our ratings for the 2016 Caulfield Cup.

11. Jameka:

Finished: 1st

Summary: Positive from the gates and landed herself in just a perfect spot in the run. Trucked up beautifully and was there to pounce on the turn and from there, it was absolutely painless.

Rating: 10/10

Spring Target: Melbourne Cup

4. Scottish:

Finished: 2nd

Summary: Was wide most of the way before McEvoy pressed forward to lead. Gave a really good kick in the straight but was no match for the mare. Given the wind and the work he did…what an effort.

Rating: 9/10

Spring Target: Melbourne Cup?

3. Exospheric:

Finished: 3th

Summary: Jumped okay but was snagged by Oliver to get midfield cover. Continued to truck as horses were going around him and presented to be a threat on the turn, but his quirky ways were on show as he continued to duck in and having his head to the side. He is a Melbourne Cup threat if Team Freedman can iron him out.

Rating: 7/10

Spring Target: Melbourne Cup

7. Almoonqith:

Finished: 4th

Summary: Where the hell did this run come from? Had the suck run back on the rail and Walker saved all the ground before the turn when peeling clear and he really worked home well with purpose.

Rating: 7/10

Spring Target: Melbourne Cup

12. Real Love:

Finished: 5th

Summary: Jumped okay and was taken to the lead by Williams. Had a soft run behind the tempo and when clear, she finished off okay but was no match. The ride certainly didn’t help her cause.

Rating: 6/10

Spring Target: Melbourne Cup?

2. Our Ivanhowe:

Finished: 6th

Summary: Got away okay and was put into a midfield spot. He came wide on the turn and looked a little lost, but his final 150m was a terrific Cup trial. He’s right on target.

Rating: 7/10

Spring Target: Melbourne Cup

5. Sir Isaac Newton:

Finished: 7th

Summary: Wide most of the way and into that breeze, it was mission impossible. You just forget he went around I suspect. Better than that for sure.

Rating: 6/10

Spring Target: Melbourne Cup?

20. Vengeur Masque:

Finished: 8th

Summary: For a 300/1 shot, his run wasn’t too bad at all. He was back in the run and was never really clear. When he did get clear, he worked home okay.

Rating: 6/10

Spring Target: Melbourne Cup?

19. De Little Engine:

Finished: 9th

Summary: Sat last in the run and was under pressure before the turn, but for a bolter I didn’t mind his last 250m. Not a Melbourne Cup winner, but could pick up the Lexus/Queen Elizabeth.

Rating: 5/10

Spring Target: Melbourne Cup

8. Sir John Hawkwood:

Finished: 10th

Summary: Funny run from him. He had a nice sit just off the speed, but given he lacks that turn of foot, he couldn’t give a start to them and beat them. Put a line through him as a Cup horse.

Rating: 3/10

Spring Target: Melbourne Cup

1. Preferment:

Finished: 11th

Summary: Got away well and pushed forward but for the first bit of the race was four wide no cover. Ended up getting cover but he was plodding. Retirement is on the cards surely.

Rating: 2/10

Spring Target: Melbourne Cup

10. Tally:

Finished: 12th

Summary:  Jumped quickly and led from the wide gate before the post. Handed up to Real Love. Was put to sleep and had a charmed run but just didn’t fire when it mattered.

Rating: 2/10

Spring Target: Melbourne Cup

9. Articus:

Finished: 13th

Summary: Had the back of Sir Isaac Newton all the way, but when it came to the crunch, he failed to fire. Rare that Wohler gets it wrong, but I think he has here.

Rating: 1/10

Spring Target: Melbourne Cup?

17. Pemberley:

Finished: 14th

Summary: Was back near last in the run throughout. Under pressure on the turn and peeled wide but he just isn’t quite up to that level.

Rating: 1/10

Spring Target: Melbourne Cup?

15. Sacred Master:

Finished: 15th

Summary: Had the back of Our Ivanhowe before getting on the back of Exospheric, but as soon as that happened, he was gone. The Metropolitan form failed badly here.

Rating: 0/10

Spring Target: Melbourne Cup

18. Go Dreaming:

Finished: 16th

Summary: Well he got a spot in the field and good on the connections…that’s about the only positive you could say about this horse. Gone at the 800m mark and struggled badly as everyone predicted.

Rating: 0/10

Spring Target: Unknown
