After a strong fourth in the Sir Rupert Clarke (1400m) against some crack gallopers, a wave of money has come for the Gai Waterhouse trained Sweet Idea with punters at Sportsbet.com.au to win the Tristarc Stakes (1400m) on Saturday, opening at $3.80 before being crunched into $3.20 and could well challenge Catkins for the favourite tag, who has been $2.70 out to $2.80. The best backed runner earlier in the David Jones Cup (2000m) has clearly been the former UK stayer Noble Protector, who has been smashed into $3.75 from $7. Signoff has also been backed in from $5 into as low as $4.20 but is now at $4.50 with the wave of money for the import. There has been plenty of action in the Caulfield Sprint (1100m), most notably around the Scone runner Big Money, who was scratched from Sydney. Shamal Wind has been $4.80 out to $5, then crunched into $4.60 before easing out to her original quote.
