After two excellent runs back from a spell, and with a better barrier now, the Chris Waller trained Liberty Island has been clearly the best backed runner across Australia for Boxing Day 2014 when he steps out in the James Boag’s Premium Maiden Handicap (1400m) at Randwick.
To be ridden by Hugh Bowman, the gelding opened at $3.10 and has been crunched to $2.50, firming at every call, and as such, nearly all other runners have eased in betting, including stablemate Electrifyin’ ($3.30-$3.80).
The only other firmer in the event has been the Gary Portelli trained Russet, who opened at $11, got to $13 and is now sitting at $10. Master Agar opened at $19, got out to $26 and is bow back at his original quote.
