Barrier rogue Here De Angels only has to get within five lengths of Black Caviar for his supporters to get their money back in the Schweppes Stakes with corporate bookmaker Centrebet.
Centrebet has expressed its dismay after the stewards took the unprecedented step on Thursday to shift Here De Angels out one barrier to protect Black Caviar, in the adjacent barrier, from possible harm as she aims for 15 straight wins in Saturday’s Group Two sprint at Moonee Valley.
Centrebet’s Neil Evans said Black Caviar was “now officially above the law”.
“Personally, this is disgraceful,” Evans said.
“Here De Angels had passed his scrutiny to run and nothing should change after the barrier draw, but if anything like this happens surely Black Caviar must go to the outside.”
Evans said Centrebet’s Pick Your Own Field was now in overdrive, with punters taking the $8 offered for Here De Angels winning in a “Black Caviar Out” market.
“It’s become a Ban the Champion market now,” Evans said.
Black Caviar is $1.04 in most complete betting markets.
