A bizarre finish to the second at Canterbury today has foiled a big betting plunge by punters.
The Peter and Paul Snowden trained first starter Mandela opened at $4.20 with Sportsbet on Monday and was heavily backed throughout, jumping at even money and punters would have been cheering at the 100m mark when the colt looked like he was going to run straight past eventual winner Exceed The Stars but the Sebring colt veered and ran off the track to just go down in a narrow finish.
Mandela was the best backed runner with the TAB around the country on Wednesday morning with multiple big bets placed on him to win on debut.
