Murwillumbah
$35 Win/$65 Place Crooked Gent R5 @ $11/$3.2 (BetEasy)
Murwillumbah Overview:
Bludger of a meeting but I think there is one at silly odds and it’s Crooked Gent in the fifth. He’s had two runs back from a let up. First run was at Grafton in what was pretty much a barrier trial. He then went to Ballina and was moving into the race nicely but got checked and forced quite wide on the turn in a bit of a forgive behind a handy one in Ambitious Prince. IMO, I think the three favs you can easily risk given their recent form and other factors, whereas this bloke is a track specialist and Jason Taylor gets on well with him. The concern will be a wet track, because I think he’s much better on top of the ground, even though his wet track stats aren’t too bad.
Bendigo
$100 Win Scramjet @ $3.5 (BetEasy)
Bendigo Overview:
I think Scramjet is above average for Tony McEvoy. Debuted at Gawler just under three weeks ago where he started very short odds and despite looking in a bit of trouble early on, once he got clear air and Caserta got fair dinkum, the change up speed was there and he won impressively. Time compared well relative to the day and his late splits were some of the best of the meeting, plus that maiden has already produced two winners. Comes straight to Victoria, but IMO finds a thin Class One and the big tick for me is the Blinkers going on, a gear change that does seem to work absolute wonders with the Lucas Cranach progeny. Drawn out, he should get clear air to wind into his work and is a really good bet.
