Pakenham
$50 E/W Lunar Flare R2 @ $8 Win (TAB), $2.6 Place (BetEasy)
Pakenham Overview:
I think she’s just the wrong price in a thin maiden. Debuted over 1400m at Cranbourne on January 4 and she was one of the runs of the meeting I thought. Was out the back, keen in the run, then forced to come very wide on the turn. Took a while to balance up but once she did, she was excellent late in running a close up third and wins in another stride or two. Her late splits were clearly the fastest of the race, and now up to the mile, bigger track, good gate. I think she’s a ripping bet at the price and have made the best bet across the day/night. Hopefully can get clear air at the right time and produce the finale she did on debut. Does that, she’ll just about be winning for mine.
Ipswich
$40 Win Smokin’ Hussay @ $2.9 (Sportsbet)
$20 Win/$40 Place Choice Missile R5 @ $7/$2.5 (BetEasy)
Ipswich Overview:
Smokin’ Hussay has a few convictions, like most in the field, but her run over the 1350m here last time was very good from the back. Had to make a long searching run and I think she just couldn’t sustain it. Hopefully can sit closer in the run and if that eventuates here, she should take some beating in a thin race. A filly who I think has opened at silly odds is Choice Missile, a Tony Gollan first starter. Trialled a few weeks back at Doomben and looked to move alright when second to the well performed maiden and stablemate Addocarr, who would be odds on here. Did wander about late so drawing barrier one and having the rail as a guide certainly looks a big tick and at $7, happy to back her each way.
