Hamilton
$35 Win Saint Isidore R2 @ $3.1 (Sportsbet)
$45 Win Royal Boss R5 @ $2.9 (BetEasy)
$20 Win Looking Around R6 @ $6 (BetEasy)
Hamilton Overview:
Really interesting runner is Saint Isidore in the second. Trialled up really well prior to resuming at Geelong in mid November where he was terrible behind subsequent city performer Cincinnati Red, and he was well backed to win. Just got back and never came on. Vet found nothing, and I can’t find a recent jumpout, so it’s a bit of a guessing came but convinced the best version of him is good enough. Cautiously made Royal Boss the best of the day. In terms of upside, he’s got them covered. The worry is that he’s poorly weighted given he’s only a last start maiden winner, and he did hit a flat spot on the turn when winning. The positives is that he’s got the upside, the race doesn’t carry much depth and Meech sticks with him. $3 is a fair enough price. Looking Around is flying for Sue Jaensch and you have to be on guard with the stable when they come over the border because they don’t do it for fun. Looks to lead the field comfortably and is worth a gamble at $6/thereabouts.
Sunshine Coast
$50 Win Dolly Spartan R4 @ $3.2 (Bet365)
$50 Win Mr Belaggio R6 @ $3.8 (Bet365)
Sunshine Coast Overview:
Note that Bet365 were the only bookie with odds up for the meeting. If he’s any sort of price, say $2+, have a healthy investment on D Browne to win the Jockey Challenge because he’s got a great book of rides, including these two, who I’m really keen on. Dolly Spartan debuted over this track/distance on December 23 and was quite good I thought. Just got a fraction too far back I thought while the eventual winner had stolen a winning break on speed. Depth probably similar, if not a tad weaker, and she should improve off that run. Me Belaggio looks a great bet in the sixth. He’s flying I think and FINALLY Birchley has put him in a race he can win. Ran in a heat of the Provincial Series here last time on a bog and was okay but couldn’t let down behind Coral Bay. Firmer footing, gate one, less depth…looks his race.
