Bart Cummings has been posted as a $3.50 chance at Sportingbet Australia to win his 13th Melbourne Cup this year following wins by leading hopes So You Think and Precedence at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said Cummings looked well on track for another Cup win with four qualified runners including two of the top three in betting.
“So You Think is the outright favourite following his dominant win in the Cox Plate at $4.20 while Precedence has been the big shortener coming in from $31 to $11 following his Moonee Valley Cup win,†Sullivan said.
“So You Think and Precedence have clearly been the two best backed runners for the Cup in the last 24 hours.
“Bart also has Dariana and Faint Perfume qualified for the Cup and although they are both $35 roughies at the moment, we all know how the master trainer can get them right for the first Tuesday in November.
“Shocking is currently second favourite at $5.00 but apart from him, it is hard to see who of the local brigade could knock Bart off.â€
Sportingbet are betting $1.30 about any other trainer winning the Cup but Sullivan said he was sure the $3.50 would be well supported and shorten before Tuesday.
“Bart Cumming’s horses are among the best backed every year and this option gives punters the chance to back all his runners in one bet,†he said.
“I am not so sure we will be able to find many punters happy to take $1.30 that the great man can’t get the job done again.â€
