Group 1 winning filly Amphitrite returned in style yesterday in the TAB Vanity at Flemington and her subsequent victory now has her rated a $7 equal second favourite with TAB for the All-Star Mile at Flemington on March 16.
Amphitrite was $15 before yesterday’s TAB Vanity, but her impressive resumption from the Spring Carnival surely impressed voters and she is now sharing the second line of betting with Land Of Plenty.
“Amphitrite has proven herself against her own age and sex with mile victories in the Edward Manifold Stakes and Thousand Guineas last spring and her potential appearance in the 2019 All-Star Mile would create plenty of interest,” TAB’s Trent Langskaill said.
“Of the five gallopers currently in single figures for the All-Star Mile with TAB Fixed Odds, two of them are three-year-old fillies with Tasmania’s Mystic Journey rated an $8 chance.”
“Four-year-old mare Alizee, who will run in Saturday’s Futurity Stakes at Caulfield after winning the Expressway Stakes at Rosehill on February 2, is the $4.40 favourite with TAB to take out the inaugural edition of the world’s richest mile race.”
The other firmer of note for the All-Star Mile from yesterday’s racing was Happy Clapper ($11 to $8) who played second fiddle to Winx in yesterday’s Apollo Stakes at Randwick.
The Pat Webster-trained eight-year-old gelding is adept at the mile having won the 2015 Villiers Stakes, 2017 Epsom and 2018 Doncaster Mile and finishing second in three other Group 1s at 1600 metres; two of them behind Winx.
Public voting on the All-Star Mile will be open until midday AEDT tomorrow, with the top ten vote-getters who provisionally accept their places in the field to be revealed on Thursday, February 21.
