Taken from Sportsbet.com.au‘s blog:

E of Vic had a cracker of a weekend punting on the ponies. His $2 multi on the last four races at Flemington on Saturday returned a whopping $9101! Below are his selections:

  • Race 6: Fontein Ruby each-way $10/$2.70
  • Race 7: Lucia Valentina to win $7
  • Race 8: Forever Loved each-way $26/$5.50
  • Race 9: Under The Louvre to win $6.50

Having never won at Group 2 level, LE backed Fontein Ruby to win or place in the Manifold Stakes for three-year-old fillies. She fought hard to score by a head, over heavily backed favourite Maastricht ($2.80).

LE was more confident in Lucia Valentina ($7) to take out the Turnbull Stakes, backing her for the win. Despite suffering a hoof injury mid-week, she sprinted strongly from a midfield position to notch her fifth win from 12 career starts.

For his third leg, LE picked Gai Waterhouse trained Forever Loved to chase home a win or place in the Group 2 Blazer Stakes. The NZ mare was stepping up a class after finishing dead last in her previous Group 3 start at Caulfield.  Lucky for Gai and LE, Forever Loved found a clear line in the final straight and charged ahead of the leaders with ease, to secure an impressive win.

LE’s fourth and final leg required Under the Louvre ($6.50) to finish the day on top and claim the Headquarters Tavern Stakes. Despite drawing barrier 1 and carrying 3kg more than his last start over 1400m, the stallion managed to defeat Darren Weir trained pair; Lucky Hussler (second) and Our Hand Of Faith (third).

We spoke to LE after his win, who said “I’m putting that one down to luck but that’s not what I’m telling the boys at work. The roof almost lifted off my lounge room in the last leg. They could hear me in the next suburb.”

Picking up $9K from a $2 bet isn’t a bad way to kick off the Spring Racing Carnival. On ya legend!
