58 race maiden Beau Dazzle has drawn barrier 16 for Thursday’s inaugural The Hotham – the richest maiden in Victorian racing history worth $50,000!
As the countdown begins to the race that has captured the hearts of the nation, the final 12 runners for The Hotham and their barrier have been confirmed.
Between the 12 runners, they’ve competed in 399 races without a single win!
Woohoo, a 19 race maiden from Tasmania, has been installed by sportsbet as the $3.20 favourite for the time honoured 1200m dash with Black Isle ($4.80) and My Giddy Aunt ($5.50) next in the market.
Beau Dazzle, the horse with the most starts in the race, has been priced at $34 while Pointer Sister, a six-year-old mare winless in 20 starts, is the biggest priced outsider at $41.
The trainer of Positive – a $17 shot – Dale Schmitt said The Hotham was a fantastic initiative and had created a massive buzz amongst racing’s battlers like never before.
“The concept is absolutely fantastic. It’s bringing the little people in racing together and giving them a shot,” Dale Schmitt said at today’s barrier draw.
“My daughter and her boyfriend are 19 and they’ve never been involved in racing and now they are both trying to get the day off work so they can be there and be part of it all.”
