Flemington- Friday, February 27: Weather Fine, Track Good 4.
Heat One- Orator (3rd):
Former European for the Hayes/Dabernig team who had two runs in the Spring and quite simply, he was awful. He has since been given a good spell, and did look pretty sharp in this particular jump out, settling off the two speed runners and going to the line under a really good hold in third. Won’t reach any great heights even though he is nominated for the Queen Elizabeth and Doncaster, but he looks like he’ll win a couple of races this prep.
Heat Two- Turquoise King (5th):
Stakes class galloper Turquoise King looked quite impressive here. He jumped brilliantly from the gates to lead, then Dwayne Dunn eased him to the outside fence and went to the line under a strangle hold as he let horses go by him. He is nominated for this weekend at Flemington and should prove hard to beat.
Heat Three- Wrotham Heath (1st) and Longeron (2nd):
This pair controlled the heat from the front, both travelling sweetly with Wrotham Heath just getting the win, but both were under good holds from their hoops. Running third was Stipulate, a Group l horse, and he was under hard riding, so I’m keen to follow Wrotham Heath and Longeron.
Heat Four- Heatherly (1st):
Best of the morning by a decent margin. Last ran in the Blue Diamond Prelude when fifth to Fontiton, and we knew then that, for now, she won’t run beyond 1000m. She jumped well in this heat, ran along in front and won by a space, once again running sub 45 seconds for the 800m, which is low flying. Nominated for Flemington this weekend, and does look the one to beat given the straight course should really suit her.
Heat Nine- Pinstripe Lane (5th):
Hasn’t raced since running down the track behind Contributer in the Coongy during the Spring. He looked pretty impressive in this particular jump out, sitting out the back before peeling to the outside fence on the turn and finishing off strongly to run a close up fifth under no pressure. Looks to be in for a good prep and could be heading north for the Brisbane Winter Carnival.
