Brisbane racing heads to Doomben this Saturday for a strong program. The weather is fine, the track is good (3) and the rail is out two metres for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:35pm) : St Vincents Blue Angels Handicap (0MW) 1600m: Form Guide

Back Me: Going to stick with Lauterbrunnen (Best Odds: $3.20). He is on the quick back up after racing last Saturday here where he worked home okay late when fifth to the above average type Lucky Tom. Draws much better here, Colless on board and should prove hard to beat in an open affair.
Big Danger: Polynikes (Best Odds: $5.50) ran over this track/distance a couple of weeks back and led all the way to win impressively thanks to a gun front running steer from Jim Byrne. Harder here, but he is in ripping form and should get every chance from the good gate and with the claim for Ruby Ride.
Roughie: Royal Scribe (Best Odds: $10.00) ran over this track/distance three weeks ago and couldn’t get into the race from the back when down the track behind in form type Feltre, beaten just under four lengths in a far stronger race than what he faces here. With a more genuine tempo here, he can bounce back.

Race Two (1:13pm) : St Vincents Palliative Care Service Handicap (75) 1050m: Form Guide

Back Me: Going with Grenache (Best Odds: $7.50). The former Sydney sider made his Queensland debut over this track/distance a couple of weeks back when finishing a strong second to impressive winner Siliqua. Takes on the older horses for the first time, but draws well and is on the limit.
Big Danger: Ike’s Legacy (Best Odds: $5.00) is one of the better bred gallopers going around being out of the great mare Ike’s Dream. She resumes here after a solid prep last time, but looks on target to run well fresh based on a slick trial effort on her home track, the Gold Coast.
Roughie: Executed (Best Odds: $11.00) ran a couple of weeks back at the Sunny Coast and wasn’t that bad when ninth to Romanarma, beaten just over five lengths. He is a very tough campaigner who tries his heart out every time. This race isn’t overly strong and he could sneak a place with some luck in running.

Race Three (1:48pm) : St Vincent Private Hospital/Mt Olivet Handicap (Class 6) 1200m: Form Guide

Back me: Glenbawn Dame (Best Odds: $2.90) ran last time out over this distance at the Sunny Coast and looked home after getting a lovely run in front, but she was grabbed late by the handy mare Ellawisdom, who is being touted to head towards the Sydney Spring, so the form isn’t too bad I think. I’d love to see her ridden with a sit, but however she is ridden, she is tough and tries hard, and should be around the mark.
Big Danger: Jimmy Says Yes (Best Odds: $3.80) is the interesting one. This Kris Lees trained mare has had two runs this time in, both in Sydney, starting off with a terrible effort at Randwick behind Darciwood before going to Canterbury and sticking to the task quite well late when fourth to Stakes performed mare Miniature, beaten two lengths. This looks a really good race for her and will prove hard to beat.
Roughie: There was a bit of support in betting for Prettyfamous (Best Odds: $9.00) last time out over this track/distance but she just couldn’t quite match it with them and had to settle for sixth to Choice Bro. That was an Open Handicap, and now she drops to Class 6 and back to her own sex. She looks very well weighted on her best form, so expect improvement.

Race Four (2:26pm) : Eileen & William Duffus Memorial Handicap 1200m: Form Guide

Back Me: Going with Most Important (Best Odds: $4.60) here. He ran well here first up behind Dram Of Red before going to the Sunny Coast and proving too good for Monaco Playboy in a close finish. Should be cherry ripe fitness wise and will get every chance from the good draw.
Big Danger: Mistral Thief (Best Odds: $13.00) has been given a five week freshen up after winning impressively here first up in a pretty handy two year old race. It’ll be interesting to see where the fitness levels are at, but on face value, he was impressive there and there is talent under the bonnet.
Roughie: Forget Mishani Honcho (Best Odds: $34.00) went around last time out at the Sunny Coast when down the track behind Most Important given he just got too far back from the wide gate. Go back to the Autumn and this was taking ground off star colt Headwater. Any sign of that form here and he’d go very close.

Race Five (3:02pm) : Zouki Handicap 1050m: Form Guide

Back Me: Architect (Best Odds: $4.80) resumes here after a solid yet frustrating prep during the Summer/Autumn. His form was very good towards the end of last prep without winning, then at the last run he had enough and was looking for the paddock. He can run well fresh, and though 1000m is short of his best distance, he will be charging home late.
Big Danger: There is just abundance speed engaged here, and the horse who should get the right run is Seeking More (Best Odds: $4.40), who tried very hard last time out when second to Rocky King at the Sunny Coast, who had a gun run in front and proved too good. More speed runners here, and Seeking More should get the lobely drop off them.
Roughie: Lucky Meteor resumes here for John Shelton after a really good prep last time in. Three starts back he did beat Seeking More, and meets him much better at the weights for beating him. Recent trial win at Coffs Harbour was sharp, and he has dodged the Grafton and Coffs Harbour carnivals to be saved for this, so I’d watch market moves.

Race Six (3:42pm) : St Vincents Care Services Handicap (75) 2020m: Form Guide

Back Me: Going with one near the bottom here- Jupiter Palm (Best Odds: $6.00). There was plenty to like about his first up effort before stepping up to the mile where he was ridden off speed and with cover, and the Brian Wakefield trained galloper just brained his rivals and won with ease. Up to 2000m here should really suit, and though drawn poorly, he looks one of the hardest to beat.
Big Danger: Walk To The Bar (Best Odds: $5.50) is on the quick back up after racing last Saturday where he just got too far back when sixth to Martilago, not beaten all that far. I like that he is on the back up and stepping up to 2000m, plus he draws well and gets 3kg off thanks to Beau Appo.
Roughie: Cruz By (Best Odds: $9.00) had threatened to win a race for a while, and he finally did it over the mile here last time out, aided by a lovely rail hugging ride from Paul Hammersley, who never went around a horse and that’s what won the race for the horse. Now that he has won a race, he could go right on with it now.

Race Seven (4:22pm) : Brisbane Centre For Pain Management Handicap 1350m: Form Guide

Back Me: Really keen here on the old boy Steel Zip (Best Odds: $3.80). He has ran on well without threatening in recent starts, but the key I think is getting the aggressive Jeff Lloyd on, and he rode the horse to a close up second to talented sprinter Rocky King, beaten narrowly. He loves racing at the track and distance, and he should get a lovely run from the gate.
Big Danger: Choice Bro (Best Odds: $5.00) ran on well last weekend over 1200m here when third to Jopa, giving away too much head start. It’ll be interesting to see what Jimmy Orman does from the wide gate here, but he is on the best horse in the race and will be suited up to 1350m.
Roughie: Facile Tigre (Best Odds: $17.00) ran fourth last time out behind Choice Bro, beaten just over three lengths. They meet at level weights from that run, so I doubt he can turn the tables on Choice Bro, but from the soft gate, he should get a cheap run and perhaps run a place at odds.

Race Eight (4:58pm) : Queensland X-Ray Handicap (Class 6) 1200m: Form Guide

Back Me: Le Val (Best Odds: $5.00) for me here. He produced a barnstorming finish to win here, beating home the best tease in the business, Liberation, so the strength of the form is questionable, but on face value, the win was most impressive. Drawn awkwardly here, but he has a booming finish on him and the speed will be hot, so he should get his chance to finish off.
Big Danger: Vienna Royale (Best Odds: $4.40) has won both starts this time in, where he has sat on speed at both outings, both at this track, including a win over 1200m here last time out in a stronger race than what he faces here. He should take some beating here if he can overcome the wide gate.
Roughie: Flamboyer (Best Odds: $13.00) was disappointing last time out when eighth to Buakaw, but his two runs prior to that, both thirds, were pretty good I thought. If you can forgive him for that last start failure, he can be a dangerous prospect here at odds.
