Race One (13:18) : Australian Turf Club Handicap 1000m Form Guide

Back Me: Well it’s the first time we get to see Wandjina (Best Odds: $1.70) on the race track for the first in 2014 after failing in the Breeders Plate last year as a short priced favourite. The reason why the hype is high around this colt is due to the fact he trialled like a star a couple of weeks back at Randwick, winning by seven lengths without being touched by Tommy Berry. If he produces that here, he bolts in.
Big Danger: Country Warrior (Best Odds: $6.50) has been scratched a couple of times from making his debut, which probably isn’t the ideal preparation as he aims towards the Slipper. He has trialled very well, including placing behind Rubick. No doubt he has the talent, but the setbacks leave me a touch concerned. Market will be the best guide.
Roughie: One horse who will get the gun sit either on the speed or just off it is I Am Snippety (Best Odds: $17.00), who has looked very good in three career runs to date. Ran a crack second to Echo Gal here, then went to the Valley and was far from disgraced when fifth to Chivalry before getting the easy kill at Wagga Wagga. She’ll ping the lids and jockey Winona Costin can do as she pleases from there.

Race Two (13:53) : Tab iPad App Handicap (75) 2200m Form Guide

Back Me: Lone horse here with upside is The Baronet (Best Odds: $2.00), so he goes on top. Loved the way he attacked the line last time out at Canterbury, beating home Transonic and Tamariz, who have both run well since. Up to an ideal trip, drawn well, looks the winner.
Big Danger: Black Jag (Best Odds: $4.00) put in an uncharacteristic flop two back at Randwick, then bounced back with a narrow second over this track/distance to Miss Venus. He is a one batter who will keep grinding away, and the best jockey for that scenario, Nash Rawiller, sticks with the horse.
Roughie: Plenty to like about the win of Poet’s Fortune (Best Odds: $7.50) last start at Kembla, sweeping home from last on the turn to win and running through the line at the end of 2000m. He deserves a crack at midweek level and has found a pretty good race.

Race Three (14:28) : Pro-Ride Handicap 1200m Form Guide

Back Me: Alberton Waltz (Best Odds: $2.40) for me in this race. Has only been seen on race day once, just over 12 months ago at Goulburn when narrowly beaten. She has trialled twice to prepare for this, and has looked sharp in each, suggesting that fitness won’t be an excuse if she gets beat here. On her home track also should benefit her winning claims.
Big Danger: Battle Queen (Best Odds: $11.00) trialled really well prior to her debut second to at Hawkesbury to stakes performer Major Conquest after sitting on the pace and looking to travel beautifully. She certainly has the talent to measure up to city level, should roll forward and prove hard to beat.
Roughie: Riva Romantica (Best Odds: $8.50) debuts here for Chris Waller off the back of a couple of handy barrier trials where she has sat back and not been asked to do much. She looks to have ability and betting moves should be closely monitored.

Race Four (15:03) : Tab Rewards Handicap 1200m Form Guide

Back Me: First starters hold the key here, with all of them trialling really well. But I’m putting on top the horse who has the raceday form on the board, Takewing (Best Odds: $3.30), who hasn’t been seen since running second to subsequent Magic Millions Guineas runner up Estonian Princess at Randwick. Went to the trials a couple of weeks back and wasn’t asked to do much behind Open Book. Drawn well, Bowman takes the ride, ticks plenty of boxes.
Big Danger: Of the first starters, the pick of them for me is Dragon Lair (Best Odds: $3.80), who has won both of his barrier trials quite impressively. First trial he led and kicked clear, then in the second he sat off them and won under a hold, so no doubt he has talent and looks to be versatile.
Roughie: Magnator (Best Odds: $6.50) is a first starter on debut for David Vandyke and Blake Shinn off the back of a pleasing barrier trial success recently at this track. He is trained here, drawn well and bred to handle the going.

Race Five (15:40) : Ibis Milano Lunch Special Handicap 1100m Form Guide

Back Me: Good race here. Going for the topweight Hot Rhythm (Best Odds: $8.50), from Tamworth for Mark Mason. She resumed a month back on her home track and was a most impressive winner, bolting in and giving the track record a nudge. That was an open handicap against seasoned, tough gallopers. She is ready to have another crack in town, and gets in beautifully at the weights after the claim for Kissick.
Big Danger: She’s Bella (Best Odds: $3.60) ran in some good races during the Spring, and was last seen in the Flight Stakes when fifth to star filly Guelph. She has trialled well to tune up for her fresh performance, should lead these from the good draw and take a stack of beating.
Roughie: Sweet Kiss (Best Odds: $5.50) is a jump and run type who struggles to finish off her races. She was given an absolute peach by Nash last start over the 1250m at Canterbury, but just didn’t quite run the trip. Comes back to 1100m, which should be ideal, and draws to get a soft run.

Race Six (16:20) : Vinery Yearlings Handicap 1400m Form Guide

Back Me: Best bet for me in So Nostalgic (Best Odds: $3.00), who could develop into a Group 1 horse for Gai Waterhouse. He couldn’t have been anymore impressive on debut at Kembla, settling midfield before unleashing on the turn and showing a dazzling turn of foot to put the race beyond doubt in a couple of strides. Looks destined for better things and should be winning this.
Big Danger: Entirely Platinum (Best Odds: $4.40) is better suited over a touch further, but he has showed a bit of speed in a couple of recent barrier trials to suggest he can run a decent race first up, even though he is drawn awkwardly.
Roughie: Strength (Best Odds: $15.00) finally broke his maiden status when resuming at Wyong a couple of weeks back, sitting off the speed before powering home over the final 200m to win with something up the sleeve. He has always shown the ability, but never put it all together. Now that he has, he could go on with it.

Race Seven (17:00) : Warwick Farm Handicap (75) 1400m Form Guide

Back Me: Canberra mare Doubtful Miss (Best Odds: $21.00) for me. She has come back in outstanding order this time in, winning twice from as many runs this prep, each on her home track. She deserves a crack in town, and the stable are having a good run when sending horses to Sydney, plus she is bred to swim.
Big Danger: Fine Bubbles (Best Odds: $10.00) has been given an absolute peach steer by Bowman at her past two outings, but she has found one better late. Again should get a dream sit off the speed, and she is bursting to win a race. Won’t get a better chance than here.
Roughie: The knockout horse here is Helvetica (Best Odds: $8.00). She has really caught the eye in two runs this time in, and should have finished much closer last time out when getting onto heels late and ending up going to the line unextended. She loves soft ground, and gets back to her home track and pet distance.
