An absolute bumper raceday has been assembled for the second stand alone Saturday meeting for New South Wales, with Scone hosting their second and final day of their Cup Carnival. The weather is overcast, the track is good (3) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race One (12:05pm) : Pryde’s Easifeed Woodlands Stakes 1100m: Form Guide

Back Me: Really interested to see the debut run of Harlem River (Best Odds: $7.00) for Gai Waterhouse and Tommy Berry. She has had two trials to prepare for this, and has won both in impressive fashion. She has shown good gate speed in both of her trials, so I am expecting her to roll forward and take some beating.
Big Danger: Helsingor (Best Odds: $6.00) resumes here for Chris Waller after a two run prep in the Summer at Melbourne, with the last run being a 2.2L fourth to Fontiton in a Blue Diamond Preview. Recent Warwick Farm trial was sharp, and although drawn awkwardly, she should be there when the whips are cracking based on the form lines.
Roughie: Wutai Mountain (Best Odds: $21.00) made her debut at Hawkesbury three weeks back and worked home well late to run second to impressive Godolphin winner Badajoz. She should take good improvement from that run, draws well and Cassidy takes over. Definite chance.

Race Two (12:40pm) : Cresfield Handicap (75) 2200m: Form Guide

Back Me: Good luck getting the winner here. Going to go with some value in the shape of Pop ‘N’ Scotch (Best Odds: $13.00), a Queensland stayer trained by Liam Birchley who ran last time out in the Toowoomba Cup and was outclassed when running last to Pornichet, plus he didn’t look 100% happy in the conditions. Firmer track, drop in class and a bigger track should suit, plus Robert Thompson has a lethal winning strike rate when steering Birchley runners.
Big Danger: Doukhan (Best Odds: $12.00) has had two runs on Aussie soil for Kris Lees. First up at Warwick Farm he worked home okay behind Salford Art, then he just couldn’t quicken in the Randwick mud behind Major Major. who has franked the form by winning again. Gets back on a dry track and Bowman takes the steer back. Definite improver for mine.
Roughie: You could put a host of runners here, but I’ll put it Rezoned (Best Odds: $17.00), who failed last time out at Canterbury, but has since gone to the trials and went very well, running second to Prince Cheri. Drawn terribly, but Angland will likely ease her back and save her for one run.

Race Three (1:15pm) : Turangga Farm Handicap (75) 1100m: Form Guide

Back Me: Pretty keen here on Kraftwerk (Best Odds: $7.50), who was backed as if unbeatable first up at Geelong and thanks to a lovely steer by Michael Walker, the gelding proved far too good for his rivals, winning by over two lengths. Second up last time in he was only beaten a length in a pretty strong form race at Flemington. Handles all conditions and this just looks a lovely race for him here.
Big Danger: Crooked Blaze (Best Odds: $9.00) is the big threat. He is a very talented horse on his day, and we saw that in the Autumn, which ended with a close up fourth in the Tamworth heat of the Country Championship behind an above average type in Voodoo Lad. Hasn’t trialled, but the booking of Blake Shinn is a good lead, and if the track is dry, then he is the horse to beat.
Roughie: Vanilla Princess (Best Odds: $6.50) is a regally bred mare who resumes here for Gai Waterhouse after a strong Spring, which saw her win two races, one in town, and placed in town on another occasion. I haven’t liked what I’ve seen at the trials, but she’ll only carry 52.5kg, draws well and will give them something to chase.

Race Four (1:50pm) : Coolmore Denise’s Joy Stakes 1100m: Form Guide

Back Me: Donelle (Best Odds: $4.60) looks one of the better bets on the program. Classy filly who has taken her time, but this prep she has strung together two wins from as many runs, starting off with an easy kill at Gosford before going to Canterbury and hitting the line with real purpose to beat the older mares. Drawn awkwardly, but there is just so much upside with her. Clear horse to beat.
Big Danger: Onemorezeta (Best Odds: $9.00) has been a touch disappointing this time in after a huge Spring, but she finds her right level here IMO. All four runs she has had this time in have been against classy fillies and mares, with the latest coming behind Avoid Lightning. Bowman on, drawn to get a good midfield trail, and on her day, she’d go very close in this.
Roughie: Defender (Best Odds: $18.00) is a regally bred filly by Redoute’s Choice out of star mare Alinghi. She resumed at Canterbury and toughed it out very strongly on speed to beat an above average type in Miss Royale. Trial leading up to that was fantastic, and is drawn outside Donelle, so she should get the cart over or sit behind Donelle at worst.

Race Five (2:30pm) : Yarraman Park- Horsepower Luskin Star Stakes 1300m: Form Guide

Back Me: $2.80 for Artlee (Best Odds: $2.70) seems a gift. Had he been trained by a bigger name, he would be odds on, because he is a very serious racehorse. He sat three wide no cover on speed in the Country Championship Final at Randwick yet just ambled to the front and careered away to score one of the best wins of the entire Championships. Freshened up, gate one, limit weight…how does he get beat?
Big Danger: Oxford Poet (Best Odds: $4.80) put behind him a frustrating run of outs with a strong on speed win at Hawkesbury on a bottomless surface. He is a consistent type that is never far away, but rarely wins, but now that he has got the win under the belt, he could go on with it.
Roughie: Skip Town (Best Odds: $11.00) resumed in the Town Plate at Wagga Wagga and was enormous in defeat, finishing sixth to Got The Goss, beaten a length after sitting four wide no cover on speed. He draws much better now, Bowman takes over and he did finish strongly to win second up last time in at Rosehill in a strong race.

Race Six (3:10pm) : Darley Dark Jewel Classic 1400m: Form Guide

Back Me: I singled out Fine Bubbles (Best Odds: $8.50) for this race before her run in the Sapphire (1200m), and her effort there has enhanced my confidence. She worked home very strongly from the back to run third to a Group l performer in Avoid Lightning. Fourth up last prep she was only 1.8L off Arabian Gold and Catkins in the Golden Pendant. That formline reads so well for a race like this and she looked sharp in a Wyong trial win on Friday.
Big Danger: Really keen to see the return run of Rose Of Choice (Best Odds: $4.20). She performed well in Melbourne during the Spring before failing in two Sydney runs during the Summer. I’ve been quite taken by her two trial efforts, and I have no doubt she is ready to go first up for Team Snowden.
Roughie: Calming Influence (Best Odds: $5.00) was excellent when resuming last week in the Darley Crown (1300m). She led and looked the winner with about 100m to go, but she just felt the pinch late and was grabbed by Peace Force and Solicit. She isn’t a wet track horse, so that effort was pretty good and definitely encouraging. She hasn’t done a seven day back up in the past, but Waller has a remarkable record with these horses when that scenario unfolds.

Race Seven (3:50pm) : Inglis 3YO Guineas 1400m: Form Guide

Back Me: It was really hard not to be impressed by the win of Sure And Fast (Best Odds: $3.20) in the Provincial Championship Final where he just flew them away, winning with ridiculous ease. He has always shown the talent and he put it all together during that series. Freshened up now, and though he is better with give in the ground, the vein of form he’s in, he should take a power of beating.
Big Danger: Loved Up (Best Odds: $8.00) ran in the Country Championship series and won the Albury heat before running sixth in the final behind Artlee. In between those runs, he won the Albury Guineas. After the final he went to the Town Plate at Wagga Wagga and stormed home from near last to just fail in picking up Got The Goss. She’s a filly who just loves racing and there is no reason why she can’t win here.
Roughie: Bulletproof Monk (Best Odds: $51.00) ran last time out over 1280m on a bottomless Muswellbrook surface and lumped 58kg when just failing to win, running second to a city performer in Mr Entertainer. Up to 1400m is the query, but he gets back to a firm surface and is on his home track, which is such an advantage.

Race Eight (4:30pm) : Arrowfield Ortensia Stakes 1100m: Form Guide

Back Me: Going with Atmospherical (Best Odds: $6.50). She hasn’t raced since the Sapphire (1200m) at Randwick when eighth to Avoid Lightning, and on that run, it’d be hard to entertain her here, but she looked outstanding in winning a Warwick Farm barrier trial on Monday, and to the eye, she has appreciated the little break and looks in great order for this.
Big Danger: Target In Sight (Best Odds: $4.00) worked home strongly against the double bias at Randwick in the Hall Mark behind Our Boy Malachi, sitting back on a day where leaders or horses near the rail were severely advantaged. Looks to be good speed here for him, draws well, McDonald aboard and has had a nice trial to tune up.
Roughie: Dothraki (Best Odds: $7.50) has his first run for Team Snowden after formerly being with Gerald Ryan. This bloke was very consistent during his days with Ryan, winning solid races and placing behind some class animals, most notably Our Boy Malachi. Looked sharp in a recent Warwick Farm barrier trial and can run well fresh.
