Race One (12:07pm) : Optus Busines Direct Ipswich Mile (85) 1666m: Form Guide
Back Me: Going for Colour Charge (Best Odds: $5.50). He was pretty good two back over 1800m at the Sunny Coast behind Landlocked before stepping back to the mile at the same track and letting down powerfully under the guidance of Damian Browne to win with ease. He really has a knack with this horse, and Natalie McCall horses in general. Looks extremely hard to beat.
Big Danger: Budget Bender (Best Odds: $2.45) sat on speed all the when resuming on his home track at the Gold Coast, and he fought on very well, but was just no match for Kalandula late, beaten a neck. He won impressively second up last time in over 1400m, but he resumed over 1300m, so 1400m resume run this time up to the mile second up should be no issue, stable has a pretty good strike rate and the horse was impressive in winning his lone run here.
Roughie: Perfect Punch (Best Odds: $10.00) is on the quick back up after leading all the way in a small field last Sunday at the Sunny Coast, starting as the rank outsider. His three runs prior to that this time in were horrendous, so it was good to see him bounce back to winning form. The one thing with this horse is that once he finds winning form, he holds it, so don’t rule him out.

Race Two (12:42pm) : Schweppes T.L. Cooney Handicap 1350m: Form Guide
Back Me: Rhodin Drive (Best Odds: $7.00) drops significantly in grade here. Two back he ran a solid sixth to Winx in the Sunny Coast Guineas before going to the Grand Prix and not quite running the distance out when ninth to Upham, beaten just under four lengths. Back in trip suits, and this is the easiest race he has contested since winning three back at the Gold Coast, and going back through his form, there are names like Hallowed Crown and Hauraki…surely that’d be good enough to go close here.
Big Danger: Crooked Blaze (Best Odds: $2.70) has had two runs back from a break, and has been quite good, starting off with a second to Encostanati during the Scone Carnival before going to Rosehill and just tiring late when fifth to Stakes winner Savoureux, beaten just over two lengths. This looks a much easier assignment and should prove hard to beat.
Roughie: Life At Sea (Best Odds: $14.00) resumed during the Scone Carnival and wasn’t too bad behind Avonaco, beaten 3.5L. He then went to Grafton and the Guineas Prelude and worked home strongly late when running third, beaten a length. I suspect this horse will peak for the Grafton Carnival, so there might be improvement left, but there is talent and upside.

Race Three (1:17pm) : Sirromet Wines Bundamba Plate 1100m: Form Guide
Back Me: The best horse in the race is clearly Wicked Intent (Best Odds: $2.50), so he goes on top. He has had two runs back from a break and has taken on the best of the best, starting off with a second to Blueberry Hill in the Champagne (1200m) before doing too much work in the Sires Produce (1350m). Back to 1100m suits, should be cherry ripe fitness wise, and really, on his best form, he’s better than these.
Big Danger: Perfect Dare (Best Odds: $13.00) debuted over 1025m here a tick over two weeks back and aided by a lovely ride from Glen Colless, the son of Fastnet Rock proved too good for his rivals, who definitely aren’t in the same kettle of fish as the lot he faces today, but he is in a very good stable, he draws well and most importantly has winning form around this tricky circuit.
Roughie: Hot Snippety (Best Odds: $21.00) was just too bad to be true when resuming at Doomben behind Secret Saga before going to the Scone Carnival and running not too bad I thought when ninth to Flippant, who franked the form by winning impressively last Saturday in the Lancaster. She draws a soft gate now, drops significantly in grade and is a definite improver.

Race Four (1:57pm) : Ray White Ipswich Dash (Class 6) 1100m: Form Guide
Back Me: All things being equal, Glenbawn Dame (Best Odds: $7.00) should take care of this lot. She sat on speed and toughed it out strongly to win over 1000m here a month back before going to the Bright Shadow (1200m) and beating all bar Dublin Lass, beaten a length. That was blacktype, and she drops to a Class 6, and she drops 3.5kg in weight…how does she lose?
Big Danger: Hidden Pearl (Best Odds: $2.10) is perhaps the fastest horse out of the gates Queensland has to offer, and that has been a big key as to why she has been so successful this time in. She attempted to lead all the way in the Bright Shadow, but just couldn’t quite finish off Dublin Lass and Glenbawn Dame. Back to 1100m suits and the tight turning track will really suit her racing pattern.
Roughie: Rock Royalty (Best Odds: $11.00) has been given a six week freshen up since running on the Toowoomba stand alone program where he worked home strongly from the back to finish fifth to Jack’s Jet, beaten just under two lengths. The speed will be on for him, draws a soft gate and should be in the finish with luck.

Race Five (2:37pm) : Winter Provincial Stayers Series Final (80) 2150m: Form Guide
Back Me: Going to give I’m Hector (Best Odds: $5.50) another go here. Just forget he went around last time out at the Sunshine Coast behind Wimpole Street given he was forced back to last from the wide gate and just couldn’t make up the ground after coming out wide towards the centre of the track on the turn. Remember he is doing this all in his first prep and he does tend to have a real liking for Ipswich. Hard to beat.
Big Danger: Pop ‘N’ Scotch (Best Odds: $7.50) was pretty disappointing I thought two back at Scone in the Stayers Final before coming back home and running in the Wimpole Street race at the Sunny Coast, and worked home well when running fifth, beaten 2.5L. He can be hard to follow as a punter, but if the speed is on, which it usually is in this race, he’ll be like I’m Hector and finishing off very strongly.
Roughie: Wimpole Street (Best Odds: $13.00) was given an absolute peach by Glen Colless to win that Sunshine Coast race mentioned above, cuddling up near the inside and then dashing through a gap in the straight and winning with a fair bit of ease. His two runs at this track have been quite competitive, and this looks well within his range here.

Race Six (3:17pm) : Channel 7 Ipswich Cup 2150m: Form Guide
Back Me: Going with the horse with upside and that lies with Vodnik (Best Odds: $17.00), a former Chris Waller galloper who has had a couple of preps now under the care of capable Gold Coast horseman Bruce Hill. He worked home well two at the Gold Coast behind Shotover River before going to the Murwillumbah Cup Prelude and finishing off the race very strongly to win impressively. That was 1800m, but he looks far better suited at 2150m, and he is a horse that appreciates tight turning tracks, and he is a winner at Ipswich. Hard to beat.
Big Danger: Baligari (Best Odds: $6.00) finished off his race strongly in the Premiers Cup when a close second to in form galloper Faust. He was known as a more sprinter/miler early on his career, but as he is getting older, he is relaxing more and running out longer distances. He has the best lead up form for this, and he should be very competitive with the right run.
Roughie: Miss Husson (Best Odds: $21.00), suited by a strong tempo and aided by a gun ride from Matty McGuren, proved far too good for her rivals over 1800m at the Sunny Coast last time out, charging clear and winning with a fair bit of ease. She’s a bit of an unknown at the trip, but the one thing she does have here is a turn of foot, and that will be an advantage, especially at Ipswich where there is a short straight.

Race Seven (3:57pm) : City Of Ipswich Eye Liner Stakes 1350m: Form Guide
Back Me: Sticking with the class runner which at the moment has to be Ulmann (Best Odds: $5.00), who tried very hard last time out in the Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) and looked home, but he just couldn’t hold out the unbelievable finish of Winx, who obviously franked the form by winning the Oaks. Rock hard fit, so I don’t think 1350m will be an issue, on the limit…hard to beat.
Big Danger: Riva De Lago (Best Odds: $6.00) started big odds when he resumed in the Glasshouse (1300m) but he dashed up along the inside and sprinted sharply and ended up winning very impressively. He is a two time second up winner, and despite drawn awkwardly, he looks to have returned in outstanding order and is a definite threat.
Roughie: Pillar Of Creation (Best Odds: $11.00) has raced quite well since joining the Tony Sears yard, with the highlights coming at his past two starts, starting off with a second in the Weetwood to Mr Favulous (1200m) before a third to Riva De Lago in the Glasshouse (1300m). He loves this distance range and looks well suited in this event off the back of a couple of strong efforts at a similar level.

Race Eight (4:32pm) : Sky Racing Gai Waterhouse Classic 1350m: Form Guide
Back Me: Going to give Fare Well (Best Odds: $7.00) another chance here. I was quite keen on her in the Bright Shadow (1200m) but unfortunately she got stuck from the gate and was left wide no cover. She actually did a pretty good job to end up finishing fifth, beaten just under four lengths. Her trials leading up to her resumption were fantastic. Extremely hard to beat.
Big Danger: It was really hard not to be impressed by the first up run of Real Surreal (Best Odds: $4.60) in the Bright Shadow (1200m) when storming home from near last to run fourth to in form mare Dublin Lass, beaten 3.5L. She looks to be enjoying being under the care of Kelso Wood again after having a stint with Team Hawkes. She has really good second up form, and at her best, she’s better than these just purely on her brilliance.
Roughie: Champagne Cath (Best Odds: $5.00) tried very hard first up over 1400m at the Sunny Coast before stepping back to 1200m in the Bright Shadow and just feeling the pinch late when sixth to Dublin Lass. She looks suited by the rise to 1350m again and the likely dry track suits her perfectly.
