Triple Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Glen Boss has picked up two crucial rides at Saturday’s Flemington meeting after Craig Newitt was suspended at Caulfield on Sunday.

Newitt was suspended until midnight on October 5 after being found guilty of careless riding aboard Das Machen in the Excited Angel Handicap.

Boss will replace Newitt on the Mick Price-trained Light Fantastic when the Group I-winning grey resumes in the Group II Baguette Stakes (1200m), a race formerly known as the Gilgai Stakes.

Price has also secured Boss’s services for Rightfully Yours in the Scalzo Food Stakes (1400m) after Newitt rode the son of Show A Heart to an impressive win at Listed level at Caulfield on September 19.

Trainer Anthony Cummings will combine with Boss in an attempt to repeat their success at Group I level with Turffontein when the jockey takes the mount on Red Lord in the Turnbull Stakes.

Boss will ride Miss Darcey for Cummings in the Listed Bart Cummings (2500m) as well as Prima Nova in the Group II Blazer Stakes (1400m).

Flemington trainer David Hayes has booked Boss for Irish Lights in the Group II Edward Manifold Stakes but a start for the filly on Saturday is unlikely as she is set to go straight into the Group I Thousand Guineas.
