Craig Williams has become the first Victorian jockey suspended under the new version of racing’s whip rules.

Williams was suspended for four meetings after stewards found him guilty of overuse of the whip after the jockey struck Flying Tessie 10 times before the 100 metres in the Transpacific Cleanaway Handicap.

Williams’s ban begins at midnight on Saturday, the jockey to return to the saddle on the following Thursday.

Meanwhile, Damien Oliver was fined $400 for over-use of the whip aboard Clearway in the Direct Alarms Supplies Handicap.
