High profile jockey Matthew Chadwick has been granted bail by police after being arrested in relation to an alleged assault in Hong Kong.
Chadwick was accused on Monday of assaulting a bus driver and breaking a window on the bus door, reports the South China Morning Post.
His girlfriend was also arrested on suspicion of obstructing the police in the execution of their duty.
The incident occurred after around 20 Jockey Club staff and their friends chartered a bus to take them to Sha Tin racecourse on Monday.
A Hong Kong Jockey Club farrier has also been arrested for allegedly biting and assaulting two passengers on the bus in a separate matter.
Jockey Club officials confirmed that a rider had been arrested in connection with a common assault and criminal damage case but chief steward Kim Kelly said he did not want to comment further until a full investigation had been conducted.
“I am awaiting a report from the security investigation department on a matter possibly involving a jockey licensed by the club,” Kelly told the South China Morning Post.
“Beyond that, I can make no comment.”
The 22-year-old Chadwick has ridden 51 winners in Hong Kong this season and is third in the jockeys’ premiership.
Five years ago he had a successful stint in Australia where he rode 26 winners before being granted a licence to ride in Hong Kong in December 2008.
