William Buick does not believe the switch to the Polytrack will inconvenience Thought Worthy in the Derby Trial at Lingfield on Saturday.

Thought Worthy was runner-up to Imperial Monarch in the Classic Trial at Sandown on heavy ground last month and Buick is pleased the John Gosden-trained colt will not be asked to tackle testing turf conditions again so soon.

All races were reopened once the turf course was found to be waterlogged and Thought Worthy is among 10 in the Group Three contest.

“I liked him a lot when I won on him at Newcastle last year first time out. He was very raw then and did well to win,” Buick told At The Races.

“Then he ran very well at Sandown in the Classic Trial. I think the winner, Imperial Monarch, is a very smart horse.

“You could say Joseph (O’Brien) was on the better ground that day, but nonetheless he had to go a lot further than the rest of us did so it was a good performance, but I liked my horse as well and he goes to Lingfield with a good shout.

“I’m quite happy the race is on the Polytrack now. We wouldn’t really want to go on heavy ground after that.”

Cavaleiro, a son of 2006 Epsom winner Sir Percy, bids to book his place in the premier Classic for trainer Marcus Tregoning.

Other possible runners include Richard Hannon’s Rougemont, Rae Guest’s Ed De Gas, David Lanigan’s Main Sequence and Andrew Balding’s Goldoni.

William Haggas’s promising filly Vow is among 11 entries for the Oaks Trial on the same card.

The daughter of Motivator won on her debut at Newbury last month to earn quotes of around 16-1 for the Investec Oaks which Haggas won last year with Dancing Rain.
