Quest For Peace has emerged as a possible Caulfield Cup contender for English trainer Luca Cumani following a Listed win at Goodwood on Saturday.
The horse had had already secured his place on the plane for Cumani’s latest assault on the Melbourne Cup and he backed up his recent Group Three success by wearing down Electrolyser in the March Stakes.
Quest For Peace’s stablemate Mount Athos is the favourite for the Melbourne Cup in which Cumani-trained horses have finished second twice.
“In this horse and Mount Athos, we’ve got two with very good credentials for Melbourne,” Cumani’s wife and assistant trainer Sara said.
“Mount Athos may not have another run, but the owners might want to run this one in the Caulfield Cup.”
Connections would have to pay a late entry fee to put Quest For Peace in the Caulfield showpiece.
Godolphin also have a possible Melbourne Cup contender in Willing Foe, winner of Saturday’s prestigious Ebor Handicap at York.
“The options are open for him. We’ll have a look at everything, but he is a possible for the Melbourne Cup,” trainer Saeed bin Suroor said.
“We’ve got a few in it, but I think the trip would be perfect for him.”
