Reigning Melbourne Cup winner Americain has bounced back to form in his first start since May, taking out the Listed Prix de Reux (2500m) at Deauville overnight.
Americain, trained by Alain de Royer Dupre and ridden by Gerald Mosse, defeated Diamond Boy by a length, with a head back to Burma Gold in third.
He had started second favourite in the six horse field.
The son of Dynaformer will now head to the Group 2 Prix Kergolay (3000m) in three weeks time – a race he won last year.
Yesterday, Americain was entered for both the Caulfield Cup and the Cox Plate.
It is believed connections are keen to use the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on October 22 before he attempts to defend his Melbourne Cup crown.
Nominations for the Melbourne Cup are not taken until September 1, with weights released on September 13.
