A disappointing track gallop on Monday has forced glamour mare Tuesday Joy into retirement.

“We tested her at trackwork and my rider Mark Newnham said the mare felt listless and was just not herself,” trainer Gai Waterhouse said.

“I just don’t think she has got over the trip to Dubai. Those overseas trips can take a lot out of a horse.”

Tuesday Joy, owned by John Singleton, was being prepared for this year’s Melbourne Cup but had not made a spring appearance.

During a stellar racing career, Tuesday won seven races and banked more than $3.2 million in prizemoney.

She retires with Group I wins in the BMW, Ranvet Stakes, Chipping Norton Stakes and the Coolmore Classic.
