Les Ross hopes Voodoo Blue Magic can fly the stable flag in the absence of talented two-year-old Mishani Honcho.
Ross is one of the few trainers hoping rain hits Brisbane earlier than predicted to help noted mudlark Voodoo Blue Magic in the Mount Franklin Handicap (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday.
Rain is forecast for Brisbane but not until late on Saturday.
Horses don’t come much tougher than Voodoo Blue Magic which will be lining up for his fourth start in two weeks.
Ross believes Voodoo Blue Magic would be competitive on a dry track but hard to beat on a wet surface.
Voodoo Blue Magic has won twice and been placed four times in seven runs on heavy tracks.
“The only day he was unplaced he missed the start three lengths and he ended up getting beaten one-and-three quarter lengths,” Ross said.
Voodoo Blue Magic showed his toughness when winning at the Gold Coast at his third start in a week last Saturday.
“I have spelled Mishani Honcho so old Voodoo is the flag bearer at the moment,” Ross said.
Ross said Mishani Honcho would not resume until the end of the year.
Mishani Honcho had three runs in Sydney stakes company for a third in the Silver Slipper, a fourth in the Todman Stakes and an eighth in the Sires’ Produce Stakes.
