Veteran jockey Jason Taylor bounced off the turf to help two-year-old filly One More Magic land a betting move at Ipswich on Wednesday.
One More Magic was one of the best-backed runners during the meeting, firming from $4.80 to start favourite at $3.80 before winning the Sirromet Handicap.
However, the win wasn’t without drama as One More Magic tossed Taylor on the way to barrier before ambling up a chute.
After being caught, One More Magic was resaddled by trainer Kim Craft before she was slow to jump.
Taylor was able to get inside runs and One More Magic came away to beat Roxy Rhythm ($10) by a half length.
Craft said One More Magic had won a Gold Coast barrier trial in March but in three runs since had little luck.
“She ran a good race in the Ken Russell Memorial at her previous start from a wide barrier and was down in class today,” she said.
One More Magic is nominated for the Group One JJ Atkins Stakes on June 6 but is unlikely to run.
Former top jockey Brad Pengelly rode his first metropolitan winner since returning to Queensland when Miss Interiors, the $2.90 favourite, won the Ray White Handicap.
Pengelly retired in 2012 after becoming tired of battling his weight but decided to give riding another try earlier this year.
He said he returned to Queensland because the hotter weather would help keep his weight in check.
Pengelly has gradually been getting more rides from top trainers including Les Ross who has former Anthony Cummings-trained filly Miss Interiors.
“The owners decided to leave her with me after she ran (eighth) in the Gold Coast Bracelet last month,” Ross said.
Jim Byrne increased his lead in the metropolitan premiership to 54-51 over Luke Tarrant with a winning double.
