Sweet Idea has broken through for her first Group One victory, claiming a first-up win in the $400,000 Galaxy at Rosehill.
Returning to racing after a narrow Group One defeat in the Myer Classic, Sweet Idea made a run from the middle of the field to score a decisive win in the sprint for trainer Gai Waterhouse and jockey Blake Shinn.
The victory comes two years after she took the minor placing in the Golden Slipper won by her stablemate Overreach.
“I am so thrilled for the owners,” Waterhouse said.
“We’ve been wanting the Group One and we’ve got it at her first start back. What a mare.”
Shinn had Sweet Idea in eighth position and he saved ground through the ruck before getting the mare to the outside of runners at the 250m.
Sweet Idea had the leaders covered at the 100m and then drew away to beat Kuro and Miracles Of Life.
The favourite Deep Field set up a big lead in the middle stages, but he was a beaten horse at the 300m.
