Melbourne Cup favourite Shamrocker has drawn barrier five for Saturday’s Group One Underwood Stakes at Caulfield.
The Danny O’Brien-trained mare, to be ridden by Glen Boss, races well second-up and is one of five mares who have accepted for the 1800m weight-for-age feature.
The other mares in the event are Brazilian Pulse, who drew gate eight, Scarlett Lady (seven), Lights Of Heaven (three) and Southern Speed (13).
The last mare to win the race was Tristarc in 1985.
The barrier draw was held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday morning with comeback galloper Efficient, the 2007 Melbourne Cup winner, drawing gate four.
Steven King will ride the grey who hasn’t raced since winning the 2009 Group Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington.
Nick Hall has been engaged to ride stablemate Midas Touch who came up with barrier two.
The Irish Derby and English St Leger runner-up ran an eye-catching third to Littorio at his third Australian start in the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.
Victoria Derby winner Lion Tamer drew well in barrier six while Melbourne Cup runner-up Maluckyday drew nine with import Glass Harmonium, runner-up in the Makybe Diva, to jump from 12.
Among those to draw out wide were the 2009 Underwood winner Heart Of Dreams in 14 and Kingston Town Classic winner Playing God (15).
