Hong Kong-bound jockey Chad Schofield has a couple of early favourites among his rides at Moonee Valley on the first day of the new season before he begins a suspension.
Schofield, who returned to Australia earlier this month after a stint in England during the southern hemisphere winter, was suspended for 10 meetings for careless riding at Cranbourne on Wednesday.
Shortly after his ban ends on August 11, Schofield will head to Hong Kong to ride in trials and trackwork in preparation for the new season in September.
Schofield’s initial contract in Hong Kong is for six months.
He rode a winner at Cranbourne on the Clinton McDonald-trained Gloryland but was suspended for his ride on the Pat Carey-trained Sense In The City who finished second in the fourth race.
Schofield’s suspension begins after he rides on Saturday at Moonee Valley where he has five rides including last-start winners Il Cavallo and Raposo who are both early favourites in their respective races.
