Group Two winning sprinter Rubick has been added to the Coolmore stallion roster with a decision pending on whether he races during the Brisbane carnival.

He will join Cox Plate winner Adelaide has run his last race and will stand in the Hunter Valley this spring at $22,000.

A fee for three-year-old Rubick has yet to be decided but his trainer Gerald Ryan says his pedigree ensures his success as a stallion even if he doesn’t win a Group One race.

“There will be a decision over the next ten days whether he is retired now or goes to Brisbane,” Ryan said.

“The BTC Cup on the 9th of May is really the only race for him.

“He has one of the best pedigrees you could have and I think he will make a grouse stallion.

“That was the whole idea of purchasing him in the first place

“He is a lovely colt and a very fast horse. All the good stallions are fast horses whether they produce stayers or not.”

Rubick is by Encosta De Lago who has been retired from active duty at Coolmore.

The colt is closely related to Redoute’s Choice and cost $460,000 at the 2013 Magic Millions sale.

His three wins include last year’s Group Three Blue Diamond Prelude and the weight-for-age Group Two Schillaci Stakes in the spring.

Adelaide became the first overseas-trained horse to win the Cox Plate when he was successful for Aidan O’Brien.

He remained in Australia after his October victory to be prepared for the Queen Elizabeth Stakes by Chris Waller.

The wet track did little for his cause and he finished out of the placings in the $4 million race won by Criterion.
