Sydney’s premier jockey Nash Rawiller made a flying visit on Friday to take out the $170,000 Listed Albury Gold Cup on topweight Extra Zero.
Rawiller made the trip to Albury on the NSW-Victorian border ahead of venturing further south for Friday night’s Group One William Reid Stakes meeting at Moonee Valley.
The David Hayes-trained Extra Zero atoned for a half-length second in the race a year earlier, leading all the way in the 2000m contest which is one of the feature country Cups on the NSW racing calendar.
Extra Zero ($10) responded to Rawiller’s urgings in the straight to hold off Muirfield ($4.20) by a length with the Peter Moody-trained King Diamond ($9) a head away third.
Race favourite Under The Hat ($3.60) was sixth.
Rawiller will be back in Sydney on Saturday for the feature Rosehill meeting where his rides include Tullamore in the Group One Ranvet Stakes (2000m), More Joyous in the Group Two Canterbury Stakes (1300m) and Pierro in the Group Two Todman Stakes (1200m).
