Justifying a decision to miss the Golden Slipper, Pride Of Dubai has claimed a second Group One win after overcoming a wide run to win the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Randwick.
Winner of the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes in Melbourne in February, Pride Of Dubai had to make his own luck before adding the Sires’ to a record that makes him one of the most valuable colts in Australian racing.
Pride Of Dubai was trapped deep but jockey Hugh Bowman allowed him to stride forward to race with the leaders Always Allison and English.
He was one of five horses rated a winning chance at the 200m but Bowman extracted something extra out his mount to beat the dead-heaters Odyssey Moon and Rageese.
“When he needed to lift he did,” Bowman said. “Full credit to him he’s done it the hard way.”
Pride Of Dubai was one of the Golden Slipper favourites after his Blue Diamond win but co-trainers Peter and Paul Snowden settled on the final two legs of the autumn triple crown for two-year-olds as target races.
The Street Cry colt will now try to win a third Group One when he contests the Champagne Stakes over 1600m at Randwick on April 18.
