Politeness has earned a well-deserved break after victory in the Group Three Summonded Stakes at Sandown.
The mare will now be set for the Princess Series in Sydney during the autumn which the stable hope may lead to a start in the Doncaster Mile.
Providing jockey Nick Hall with the second leg of a winning double, Politeness ($6) scored by two lengths from Judicial Rock ($41) with Ava’s Delight ($18) three-quarters of a length away third.
Stuart Webb, deputising for trainer Robert Smerdon, said Politeness was possibly the best horse in the stable but also one of the most difficult.
“She’s very one dimensional and she doesn’t always fire when things don’t go her way,” Webb said.
“It was great to see her have clear galloping room and hit the line like that.”
Plans had been for Politeness to go to the spelling paddock after finishing seventh in the Myer Classic at Flemington on Derby Day, but the stable wanted to give the mare the opportunity to go out on a winning note.
“She can have a month’s break and then look to those mares’ races in the autumn up in Sydney,” Webb said.
“Who knows she may even pop into a Doncaster on the minimum.”
