Outgoing Darley trainer Peter Snowden will move from Warwick Farm to Randwick in a direct stable swap with John O’Shea who replaces him as head trainer for Sheikh Mohammed’s Australian operation.
Snowden announced late last year he and his son Paul, Darley’s Melbourne foreman, would form a training partnership after the Sydney autumn carnival.
Although his preferred option was to stay at Warwick Farm where he has been based for more than 20 years, Snowden confirmed the move after inspecting the Randwick stables last week.
In six years with Darley, Snowden has trained 28 Group One winners with the promise of more to come with stable stars Guelph and Complacent to tackle the major autumn features.
A long-time foreman for John Hawkes, Snowden assumed the top position with Bob Ingham’s Woodlands racing and breeding when Hawkes resigned in late 2007 to go into partnership with his sons Michael and Wayne.
Snowden was retained as head trainer when Ingham sold Woodlands to Sheikh Mohammed.
Many of O’Shea’s clients are understood to want their horses trained by Snowden in the 66-horse Randwick complex.
