Trainer Paul Messara will put the heartbreak of Scissor Kick’s second in the Golden Rose behind him to concentrate on stablemate Panzer Division in the George Main Stakes.

Scissor Kick was claimed late by Hallowed Crown in Saturday’s Group One race for three-year-olds after carting the winner into the race.

Even winning rider Hugh Bowman paid tribute to Scissor Kick who he said was the ideal horse to follow as they made their runs from the back of the field.

Panzer Division has been beaten just once in his three-start career, going down to his stablemate by the barest of margins in the Up And Coming Stakes.

Messara opted to bypass the Golden Rose (1400m) and step Panzer Division up to 1600 metres in the weight-for-age George Main Stakes with Brenton Avdulla to ride at 50.5kg.

The colt will be up against proven Group One winners as he attempts to become the first of his age group to win the race since Viscount 13 years ago.

Among his opposition will be Lucia Valentina, Rising Romance and the Chris Waller-trained Royal Descent and Sacred Falls.

Sacred Falls will be reunited with Hong Kong-based Zac Purton who rode the horse to his second Doncaster Mile win in the autumn.

“We will have Royal Descent and Sacred Falls and maybe Hawkspur,” Waller said.

“The other option for Hawkspur is to step up to 2000 metres in the Hill Stakes.”

Hawkspur claimed his first win for 12 months when he defended the Group Two Chelmsford Stakes (1600m), beating Royal Descent by a nose.

Lucia Valentina won the Tramway Stakes (1400m) on Chelmsford day at her first start of the season with trainer Kris Lees aiming the mare at the Cox Plate.

ATC Oaks winner Rising Romance was an eye-catching fourth in the Tramway and New Zealand trainer Donna Logan has the Caulfield Cup as a target.

Royal Descent, winner of the 2013 Oaks, finished a close second to Streama in the George Main Stakes last year.
