Refreshed after a month out with a broken foot, apprentice Kayla Nisbet is confident of making an impact in her return to the races this weekend.

Nisbet is back at Moonee Valley on Friday night but it’s the ride on talented three-year-old Lord Of The Sky at Caulfield on Saturday that has the 19-year-old excited.

The apprentice partnered the Robbie Laing-trained colt to a 3-1/2 length win at his second start at Caulfield in July.

Lord Of The Sky hasn’t started since.

He was scratched from a Melbourne Cup day race but won a trial at Cranbourne recently by eight lengths.

“He’s a really nice, promising horse so I was really happy for Robbie to put me back on,” Nisbet said.

“He showed a lot of speed and was very professional (when he won at Caulfield). The margin he won by, he was very impressive.

“This time in he won his trial at Cranbourne really well so I think he’s come back a bit better and stronger, and I think he’ll be very hard to beat.”

Lord Of The Sky was also nominated for the Listed Doveton Stakes (1000m) but Laing opted for the National Patient Transport Plate (1000m) for three-year-olds.

Nisbet is apprenticed to David Hayes and said she had been riding work for the past week.

The injury is still a bit of a mystery to Nisbet.

“The doctor said there was probably a stress fracture there and then I’ve hit it coming out of the barriers or something like that,” she said.

While the time off was enforced, Nisbet believes it could prove a blessing.

“It probably wasn’t too bad a time of year to actually have a month off, coming to the end of spring, and now the time that I’m coming back is when the apprentices really fire,” Nisbet said.

“So I’m hoping I can come back on a good note with a couple of wins on the weekend and hopefully I can have a good summer.”
