As he looks forward to the return of dual Group One winner Fiveandahalfstar, trainer Anthony Cummings has been forced to delay the debut of the gelding’s sibling Ritzy.

The filly was due to begin her career at Canterbury on Wednesday but a twisted ankle put paid to those plans, leaving her stablemate Love Las Vegas to represent the stable in the 1100m race for two-year-old fillies.

“Ritzy is a valuable filly who we have always thought would be a better three-year-old and we have to look after her,” Cumming said.

“She has gone to the paddock and will be given as much time as she needs.”

Fiveandahalfstar has not raced since he won the 2013 BMW. Cummings is pleased with his progress and he will start in the Group Three Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Love Las Vegas finished ninth, 4-3/4 lengths from the winner Lady Jivago on debut at Wyong last month.

Lady Jivago put the seal on that win with victory in the $250,000 Inglis Classic on Saturday.

While the leading lights from the Godolphin stable line up in stakes races in Sydney and Melbourne on Saturday, Italy will make her second racetrack appearance when she runs in the Canterbury two-year-old race.

The Domesday filly ran second to Mine Two on debut at Randwick in November and is the 58kg topweight on Wednesday.

Established Godolphin performers Sweynesse and Lassitude will have a day out at Canterbury with a gallop between races.

Third in the Group One Spring Champion Stakes, Sweynesse has not raced since his eighth in the Cox Plate, less than two lengths from the winner Adelaide.

Lassitude, who like Sweynesse, holds entries to the Australian Guineas and the Australian Derby, has won two restricted races.

James McDonald will put Sweynesse through his paces while Sam Clipperton will be aboard Lassitude in the 1200m work-out.
