Jason McLachlan has no regrets about delaying the debut of promising juvenile Meet George Jetson.
McLachlan had been keen to take on boom filly Frequendly in a two-year-old race at Doomben last week but was downcast when Meet George Jetson drew the outside barrier.
After talking with Slade Bloodstock syndicate boss Rob Slade, McLachlan decided to scratch Meet George Jetson and wait for Saturday’s Breakfast Creek Hotel Handicap (1050m) at Doomben.
The colt has drawn ideally in barrier two and will be ridden by Michael Cahill.
As it turned out, Frequendly was beaten by Pepperano who is now among the favourites for the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic on January 10.
“I am not sorry to have missed last week. Rob and I wanted to be patient with him because that start at Doomben is deadly for horses drawn wide,” McLachlan said.
“We didn’t want him to have a hard run.”
Meet George Jetson won a barrier trial at the Sunshine Coast by 7-1/2 lengths and ran a second faster than the other two-year-old trial heat on the day.
It has been three weeks since the trial but McLachlan believes he has kept the gelding up to the mark.
McLachlan has had plenty of success with Slade Bloodstock horses and campaigned with Enquare and Game Of Fame in Melbourne during the spring.
“Enquare didn’t win but ran some very good races while Game Of Fame was good in the Geelong Classic. Her run in the VRC Oaks is best forgotten as she didn’t have any luck.”
