Lord Of The Sky’s campaign is over and he will be spelled after pulling up sore from his Caulfield failure.

The Robbie Laing-trained three-year-old was the odds-on favourite in Saturday’s Listed W J Adams Stakes (1000m) but performed well below expectations and failed to beat a runner home.

Laing advised Racing Victoria stewards on Monday that Lord Of The Sky had pulled up “very shin sore” and would be spelled.

The colt was being aimed at this month’s Group One Oakleigh Plate until his Adams defeat.

Lord Of the Sky has won three of his five starts with his debut fourth over 1118m last June the only time he has raced beyond 1000 metres.

Laing has Lord Of The Sky’s Victoria Derby-winning stablemate Polanski ready to resume in Saturday’s Group One CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield where his opposition will include Cox Plate winner and fellow three-year-old, Shamus Award.

Dean Yendall has been called on to ride Polanski in the weight-for-age Orr with Derby-winning jockey Hugh Bowman staying in Sydney to ride at the Expressway Stakes meeting.

A four-time winner of the Victorian country premiership, Yendall has yet to win a Group One race but has won two races on Polanski including the Listed UCI Stakes at Flemington last spring.

Yendall was suspended when the colt won the Norman Robinson Stakes with Bowman aboard and connections opted to keep that combination together for the Derby.

Polanski delighted Laing with his third in an 800m Cranbourne barrier trial last Thursday when he finished behind classy sprinters Lankan Rupee and Unpretentious and just ahead of Group One winner Bel Sprinter.
