Trainer Mark Webb’s plan for lightly raced Johannapine to earn some black type continues at Moonee Valley.
Webb says if Johannapine can perform to expectations on Saturday he will look for a race for her during Tasmania’s summer carnival.
“Our ideal plan is to pick up a black type race somewhere,” Webb said.
After overcoming injury problems and a knee operation during her career, Johannapine will have her third run after a spell in the $100,000 Jeep Don’t Hold Back Handicap (1000m).
“She’s had injury problems in the past and we haven’t pushed to get her back,” the trainer said.
He said she raced without luck when third at Moonee Valley on December 6 after getting held up twice for a run.
“In the race before that at Moonee Valley she got hammered on the home turn but picked herself up and came home strongly,” he said.
He’s expecting early pace in Saturday’s race, set by Sassy Tycoon and Ella Supero, to help Johannapine’s swooping finish.
“Sassy Tycoon and Ella Supero are handy horses that can lead, and whether they settle down into a good rhythm, or kill each other out front, who knows?” he said.
“If we can be third row back in behind the speed and get a clean crack at them, we’ll be happy,” he said.
